Tests for vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire or cable - procedure for 1-kW pre-mixed flame Tests for vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire or cable - procedure for diffusion flame
Length of specimen 23.62 in. (600 mm) 23.62 in. (600 mm)
Burner acc. to IEC 60332-1-1 acc. to IEC 60332-2-1
Test temperature 1 kW flame defined by the stipulated setting of the flame length
Position of specimen vertical vertical
Position of flame 45° to vertical specimen 45° to vertical specimen
Duration of flame see table 1 20 seconds
Conditions The cable must be self-extinguishing. The damage or carbonization must not exceed 50 mm beneath the upper fixing clamp. Additionally, to pass the test, the distance from the uppermost point of carbonization above the flame source to the lowest point of carbonization below the flame source must not exceed 425 mm. If carbonization extends more than 540 mm downward from the lower edge of the upper fixing clamp, an additional fault must be recorded. The cable must be self-extinguishing. Damage or carbonization must not exceed 50 mm beneath the upper fixing clamp. If carbonization extends more than 540 mm downward from the lower end of the upper fixing, an additional fault must be documented.

Table 1

Outer diameter* of specimen in mm No. of wires x diameter of wires in mm Ø
D ≤ 25 60
25 mm < D ≤ 50 120
50 mm < D ≤ 75 240
D > 75 mm 480
For cables or insulated cables that are not round (e.g., flat twin cables), their dimensions must be measured, and an equivalent diameter must be calculated.
