No matter the industry, sensors are essential components used in monitoring and control systems that drive important processes. For many applications — especially those in which distance, signal response and interference are primary concerns — cables are an ideal method for transmitting those signals. Because sensors come in a variety of types and are used across many applications, there’s no one-size-fits-all cable to meet every need.

Here’s a sampling of some of the sensor cable types and use cases, with examples from our extensive range of products:

Reeling sensor cables for seismic probes
Reeling sensor cables for seismic probes. Our reeling sensor cables are used with probes that detect hazardous substances in soil and water or in offshore risk management studies. They provide high winding and unwinding strength, as well as resistance to abrasion, notches, harsh chemicals and oils.
Cables for high temperature environments
Cables for high temperature environments. Not only should cables resist heat, they must also remain flexible even at low temperatures. Our Besilen® sensor cables work with position sensors at oven doors in low-pressure carburizing ovens, thanks to their flame-retardant and self-extinguishing characteristics.
Servo cables for position and speed measurement
Servo cables for position and speed measurement. When it comes to encoders that provide position and feedback in servo systems, you’ll need flexible cables that withstand frequent bending — even at low temperatures — to ensure a long service life. They should also resist oils. Our lineup of servo sensor cables offers these characteristics.
Cable track sensor cables
Cable track sensor cables. Our sensor cables are well-suited for encoders that measure, without contact, revolution speed, angle and position for high-speed milling machines or manufacturing centers in metal, wood, glass and aluminum processing.
Halogen-free sensor cables
Halogen-free sensor cables. Designed to meet safety requirements in Europe and other regions to protect against smoke and fumes, halogen-free cables are flame-retardant and self-extinguishing. They also feature an extended temperature range. Our halogen-free sensor cables are well-suited for railway applications like ticketing, pinch protection and door protection.
ETFE, FEP, PFA sensor cables
ETFE, FEP, PFA sensor cables. ETFE, FEP and PFA insulation gives these SAB sensor cables excellent temperature resistance and flexibility up to 180°C, making them ideal for temperature probes. They also exhibit very good electrical insulating characteristics and can resist chemicals and solvents.
Hybrid sensor cables and Ethernet and hybrid sensor cables
Hybrid sensor cables and Ethernet and hybrid sensor cables. We design and manufacture special and hybrid cables for applications as diverse as hydrostatic liquid level monitoring and measurement, downhole seismic and soil testing and fiber optic systems in robotics. Our hybrid lineup, which includes an Ethernet CAT 5 cable, is halogen-free with fire protection properties for railway applications. These cables are also resistant to oils.

Select the Best Cable for Effective Sensor Data Transmission

As industrial and transportation systems increasingly rely on sensor data to enable smart and safe operation, cables have become an effective and reliable way to deliver that data. Because different sensor applications will have distinct requirements, it makes sense to work with a cable supplier that offers a broad selection of cables to meet almost any need. When you turn to SAB North America, you’ll find the right sensor cable with the characteristics your systems demand.
