Chet joined the SAB team back in May of 2007. In addition to the outstanding job Chet has done for SAB North America he also has 15 years of prior experience in the Wire and Cable industry which included inside distributor sales, OEM account management and End-User project management. As the Central Regional Manager his region includes the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Ontario Canada. Do you have the right people working with you? At
SAB North America we have the right people working on our
team.
Recently my nephew asked me what he thought was a simple question.
He wanted to know if I thought it was better to pay sales people
more commission or base salary? His company feels that if the employee
was paid a high base salary they would not be motivated to work.
Right away this reminded me of something I had read regarding having
the right people on your team. I responded to my nephew stating
that as far as I was concerned it was more important to whom I
am paying than how I am paying them. In my 20 plus years of managing
employees it is clear to see that if the right person is employed
they will work hard either way. In the end the issue of a compensation
package is not to get the wrong person to work the right way but
rather to get the right person to work with you in the first place.

SAB Success Story
We recently shipped a very large order to a customer
in California with one of the country’s largest trucking
companies. The truck got into a serious accident and the shipment
was severely damaged. (The truck driver was ok with no serious
injuries). The driver had swerved to avoid hitting a deer and crashed
through a guard rail landing in a ditch on the side of the road.
Approximately $80,000 worth of cables were damaged and needed to
be replaced. SAB North America sprang into action by sending our
field representative to meet the shipment at its final destination
and to determine exactly which cables were damaged. Within 24 hours
the cables that were in stock in New Jersey were shipped and the
non stock items were produced in Germany then flown to the U.S.
The customer received all of the replacement cables within 5 days
no questions asked and no delay in the customer’s project.
Once again this shows that even though problems can occur it is
how each one of us responds that makes the difference.
